After a two-year break, HBO’s Emmy-nominated original series *House of the Dragon* is back with Season 2. The highly anticipated first episode is set to air this Sunday, but what about the rest of the season? Here’s everything you need to know about the release time, episode schedule, and more for *House of the Dragon* Season 2.
*House of the Dragon*, a prequel to HBO’s acclaimed series *Game of Thrones*, is set approximately 200 years before the original show. The fantasy drama is based on George R.R. Martin’s book "Fire & Blood." Season 2 picks up after the death of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s (Emma D’Arcy) second-born son, Lucerys ‘Luke’ Velaryon. King Aegon II now occupies the Iron Throne following a usurpation, with support from Queen Dowager Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke). The stage is set for an imminent and violent war between the families.
Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays King Aegon II Targaryen, hinted at some narrative changes in Season 2 during an interview with Esquire. “The books are the foundation of where we’re going narratively, but things are tweaked,” Glynn-Carney explained. “It’s the bible, but it’s also not. The writers of our show are brilliant and should be given credit for their creation. George R. R. Martin should be given credit for his creation. But they’re not the same thing.”
Stay tuned for the thrilling continuation of the saga this Sunday, and keep an eye out for updates on the episode schedule and release times.
