Tyler, the Creator has announced that he will not be performing at this year’s Lollapalooza and Outside Lands music festivals.
"I hate saying this, but I have to cancel Lollapalooza and Outside Lands," he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. "I made a commitment that I can no longer keep, and that bums me out knowing how excited folks were. That is not sexy at all. Please, please forgive me or call me names when you see me in person. Love."
In response, Lollapalooza announced that Megan Thee Stallion will be stepping in to replace Tyler, while Outside Lands has chosen Sabrina Carpenter as his replacement. The announcements were made promptly on X. Tyler did not provide a specific reason for the cancellations.
He was scheduled to be the top-billed artist for both festivals. At Lollapalooza, he was set to co-headline the first night alongside Hozier. At Outside Lands, he was listed at the top of the lineup, which included The Killers, Sturgill Simpson, and The Postal Service. Lollapalooza is slated for August 1-4 at Chicago’s Grant Park, while Outside Lands will take place a week later, from August 9-11, at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.
Tyler, the Creator last headlined both festivals in 2021 to support his album "Call Me if You Get Lost." More recently, he headlined Coachella in April, following the release of "Call Me if You Get Lost: The Estate Sale." During his Coachella performance, he brought out notable guests such as Childish Gambino, A$AP Rocky, Charlie Wilson, and Kali Uchis. Variety's Steven J. Horowitz praised Tyler's Coachella set, noting his exceptional stage presence and ability to captivate the audience. Horowitz highlighted moments where Tyler balanced high-energy performances with reflective interludes, even taking time to eat a sandwich mid-song.
Despite the disappointment, fans look forward to seeing what Tyler, the Creator will do next.
