**Election Result 2024: Narendra Modi Set for Third Term as India's Prime Minister**
Narendra Modi is expected to be sworn in as India's Prime Minister for a third term on June 8, according to media reports. The new cabinet will also take the oath on the same day. Following the announcement of the Lok Sabha poll results, the Union cabinet chaired by PM Modi recommended the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha on June 5, ahead of its term ending on June 16.
Sources cited by ANI reported that both the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Janata Dal-United (JDU), considered potential "kingmakers," have given their support. The formation of the NDA government and the swearing-in ceremony for PM Modi are expected to take place on June 8. Both parties are expected to submit formal letters of support to the BJP during an alliance meeting.
The BJP secured 240 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Although the party did not achieve a majority on its own, the NDA, with its alliances, secured a total of 295 seats. The opposition INDIA bloc obtained 231 seats. Contrary to exit poll predictions, the INDIA bloc posed a strong challenge to the BJP-led NDA. The BJP's tally was significantly lower than its 2019 count of 303 seats and the 282 seats it won in 2014. Meanwhile, the Congress showed significant growth, winning 99 seats compared to 52 in 2019 and 44 in 2014.
For the first time since coming to power in 2014, the BJP did not secure a majority on its own, falling 32 seats short of the 272-majority mark. The NDA is scheduled to hold a meeting today to strategize for future political actions. The meeting of NDA leaders is set to take place at Prime Minister Modi's residence at 3:30 pm.
On June 4, PM Modi thanked the public for their mandate, stating that the BJP-led NDA would form its third successive government. He highlighted that the victory was a testament to the resolve for a developed India, 'Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas' (Together with All, Development for All), and the strong faith in India's Constitution.
"On this sacred day, it is confirmed that NDA is forming the government for the third time. We are grateful to the people for their full faith in the BJP and NDA. This is the victory of the world's largest democracy, of strong faith in India's Constitution, and of the resolve for a developed India. It is the victory of 'Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas'," PM Modi said during his address at the BJP headquarters.
