WWE Hall of Famer Sika Anoa’i, father of renowned WWE superstar Roman Reigns, has died at the age of 79. Sika, who was one half of the legendary tag team The Wild Samoans, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, as confirmed by his family.
In a heartfelt statement posted on Instagram, Sika's nephew, Jahrus Anoa’i, expressed the family's sorrow:
"It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of WWE Hall of Famer, Polaivao Leati Sika Anoa’i. He passed away peacefully on June 25th. Sika was a celebrated figure whose contributions and legacy have left an indelible mark. His memory will live on through his achievements and the many lives he touched.
He was many things: a hard working father, a caring brother, a supportive uncle, and a proud grandfather. He was a cherished friend to many, a loving family member whose warmth and kindness knew no bounds, and an inspiration to countless individuals. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift future generations, reminding us of the impact one person’s life can have on so many. Rest in love Uncle Sika."
Sika, alongside his brother Afa, achieved great success as WWE Tag Team Champions during the 1980s. Their partnership as The Wild Samoans made them a dominant force in the wrestling world.
"WWE is saddened to learn that Sika Anoa’i, a WWE Hall of Famer, one-half of The Wild Samoans tag team and father of Roman Reigns, has passed away," WWE said in a statement. "WWE extends its condolences to Anoa’i’s family, friends, and fans."
Sika is survived by his son, Roman Reigns (real name Joseph Anoa’i), and was also the father of the late WWE professional wrestler Rosey (real name Matt Anoa’i), who passed away in 2017 at the age of 47.
Sika and Afa made their last appearance in WWE alongside Roman Reigns in 2020. Both were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007, solidifying their legacy in the wrestling world.
